I became a Sumo fan while stationed in Hawaii. Watched it on Japanese language TV and attended Sumo matches when they came to Honolulu. On a TDY to Okinawa, I was treated to a home cooked meal and the family's prize possession was a portrait of the them arrayed in front of Takamiyama Daigorō (the Hawaiian born Sumo Grand Champion Jesse Kuhaulua) The father, mother, and multiple children standing shoulder-to-shoulder spanned the width of Jesse's shoulders. I have loss track of Sumo in recent years, especially since I no longer have access to a Japanese language station and American media, news and popular culture, are too busy bashing President Trump, to even mention something like Sumo. I suppose that the Japanese feel the same as Canadians seeing the Stanley Cup residing in Las Vegas

I was introduced to Sumo while stationed at Camp Zama, Japan. It was a perfect time to be there since Takamiyama (Jesse Kuhaulua) was wrestling then. So much fun to watch.

I just like watching the two fat guys trying to push each other out of their space, just like watching two fat women at the ice cream parlor.

Funny imagery. However, don't ever think they just push if you ever run into one. They practice driving the palm of their hands into telephone poles to build calluses and strength (I wouldn't want to be hit by one of those). They may not be able to run far but they come off the line like the entire defensive line of an NFL team. They are athletes with a highly developed set of skills
