There are some great shots here, Morris - Which of these destroyers were your service ships?
This photo is of the USS Van Valkenburg named after Cpt. Franklin Van Valkenburg, MOH USS Arizona.
The ship was commissioned DD 656 in 1944 and sent to the South Pacific to fight the Japanese - a very fitting assignment for her. Among her first crew was the son of Cpt. Van Valkenburg - Ensign F.B. Van Valkenburg Jr.
Here she is seen bearing her invasion stripes and steaming her way to the Pacific theater.
Van Valkenburg is our original family name and these Van Valkenburg's are cousins on my fathers side of the family. Thought you might be interested in this little bit of Naval history. Have a great day, brother ~
