One CMC went into hqmc with a baseball bat, get back to warfighting, it paid off in the gulf. Told Colonels see their monitor and find a command, got the Corps ready for war, while a lot was going on down south and all over.

Political correctness doesn’t make the Corp more lethal. The USMC are the best trained and effective branch of the military when it comes to combat. IMHO, this is a big mistake. Open up all MOS based on ability and performance, NOT what’s between your legs.

Col Casey "Radio" G.
MCPO Roger Collins, I agree with you about political correctness, and also the harmful affirmative action policies it often generates. We end up walking down roads toward public approval that do nothing for, or even deteriorate, combat capability. I'm not sure this is our current CMC's goal, though. The only way a squad is lethal is if everyone in it trusts one another implicitly. That cohesion grows from a belief that everyone has earned the right to be there, and is laser-focused on accomplishing the mission without avoidable distractions in the back of his/her mind.
I COMPLETELY agree with your second comment. Most of us probably agree that we don't want a sexual predator or spouse beater, and all that mental/emotional baggage, covering our six. Along that same line of thinking, though, I also don't want a bottom-of-the-barrel rifleman with a GT score of 91, who was also denied parental leave, covering my back, especially knowing a perfectly qualified replacement may have been turned away only because of what's between her legs.

Col Casey "Radio" G. I suppose my dinosaur thinking reminds me of Pork Chop Hill in Korea, Hamburger Hill in Vietnam and Fallujah in Iraq. No doubt there is a small percentage of females that could manage that level of of hand to hand combat, but a small percentage. An interesting older article on the subject.

In the November 1979 issue of Washingtonian, Webb wrote that one of the main problems with the country's fighting mission was women.
