Always loved his music. Never realized he was a Florida native.

He was taught how to play guitar by Don Felder of the Eagles who was also from Gainesville. He was in Mudcrutch in the early to mid-seventies. Lynyrd Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, the Outlaws, .38 Special, and the Allman Brothers were all from Florida. The country singer John Anderson is from Apopka. I believe Jim Morrison was from Florida as well having been born in Melbourne.

As SGT Reynolds said Tom Petty was born and raised right here in Gainesville as was future Eagles guitarist Don Felder. They both attended Gainesville High School with future Eagles guitarist Bernie Leadon who moved to Gainesville in 1963 and was a student at GHS. Stephen Stills (Buffalo Springfield. Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) also was a GHS student and was in Felder's band. Stills enrolled at the University of Florida but left U.F. to
join Buffalo Springfield and record the hit song "For what it's worth". We had some music talent here in Gainesville in the early 1960's. Greg and Duane Allman lived just 100 miles
away in SGT Reynolds' home town Daytona Beach.
