One of my favorites was assigning someone to watch for the mail buoy. (No I didn't fall for it.)
But there is another side of hazing: The Blanket Party. We threw a Blanket Party for a dufus in boot camp. It seemed to help short term. Don't know if there was any residual effect when he got out in the fleet.

Operative term is moderation and perhaps a name other than hazing. Look if a Confederate statue upsets people, the term hazing is probably even worse.

Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen true on both counts. The problem with moderation is that it is subjective. One person may look at pinning the wings of a freshly minted airborne soldier as barbaric, another as tradition. So it is tricky situation. As for not calling it hazing, you pretty well nailed it.

Ya, finding common ground on moderation probably difficult, but I have faith.
