I was surprised at the long list of great Guitar players! Many I know by name and group, but many others I had no clue about how good they are or were... Great Share, Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen!!!

Hendrix is greatly over-rated in my opinion. I seriously doubt he'd have broken into the top 25 if he hadn't overdosed, and died. Same for Kurt Cobain. Tragic deaths quite often create a halo effect that magnifies someone's importance. Hendrix had a lightning fast set of picking fingers, but almost every Hendrix recording was heavily filtered to remove that "gawd awful" sound made by the guitarist not completely lifting his fingers off the strings as he moves his hands up and down the neck from fret to fret. A "Greatest Guitarist of all Time" should be great with both hands. Admittedly his intentional use of feedback was cool and changed the way electric guitars and electric bass are played forever.
There are a few I was surprised not to see:
Jose Feliciano
Roy Clark
Joe Bonamassa
Charo (yeah, I know she was a "Latin Bimbo Comedienne" in this country, but globally she was a hugely successful and acclaimed guitarist.)
Sara Jarosz
Melissa Ethridge
Bonnie Raitt
Nancy Wilson
Andre Segovia
Carlos Montoya
Gary Moore
Dickie Betts
Peter Frampton.
For Electric Guitar my pick is a three way tie - Joe Bonamassa, Carlos Santana, Dickie Betts
For Electric Bass Larry Graham Jr. [Sly and the Family Stone]
For Acoustic Guitar my pick is a three way tie - Roy Clark, Jose Feliciano, Andre Segovia
