Nice article and very timely, especially the link to the Mark 45 of you want to search a little further. Of course no Navy ship will ever carry Nuc Torpedoes (see the Bedford Incident) or do they - I can neither confirm or deny the presence of nuclear weapons on any Navy Ship. Sound familiar?
I case you wonder - AEGIS Cruisers also have torpedoes available. A triple 324mm-tube torpedo launcher is capable of launching the mk46 mod 5 torpedo and mk50 torpedo. The mk46 anti-submarine torpedo has a range of 10km, the mk50 has a range of 15km. In addition the Lockheed Martin Vertical Launch ASROC is armed with the mk50 or mk46 torpedo and is launched from the VLS.
There are two VLS Launchers, one forward and one aft that hold 60 missiles ready to fly. They can be preloaded for many uses from anti-air, anti-ship- anti-submarine, cruise missiles and many other types. Reloading can be accomplished at sea or at a weapons station.
