That is interesting news CW5 Jack Cardwell
The German Wehrmacht soldier surrendering in this staged photo reminds of Sergeant Shultz from Hogan's Heroes. It is obviously staged since the photograph is taken from the left rear of the Wehrmacht soldier :-)
I well remember firing the M3 “Grease Gun” with it long and thin .45 caliber round magazine.
Submachine guns, automatic shot guns and automatic or semiautomatic with short barrels are very useful for urban warfare above and under ground where space can be limited and firepower can make the difference.
These weapons can also be used in cave complexes and in dense vegetation IMHO.

Okay SSG Jason Werstak. The U.S. Army soldier cradling the M-3 Grease gun as he made his way over the field of cut stalks towards a Wehrmacht soldier without any obvious mud or dirt on his uniform has a determined face. The German is cringing. The Combat photographer is an the same level as they are.
In WWII through Vietnam, combat photographers took pictures above themselves because bullets were flying past them. If you see an image where the photographer is at the same level as the subjects let alone above them you know it has been staged.

Decades ago I was a combat engineer and after I was commissioned I was infantry SSG Jason Werstak I have studied military history since I was a child and have hundreds of books on WWII and many photographs. Photographs were censored and controlled by and large in WWII.
