The true toll of the Chernobyl disaster

Worked with an IT contractor who was a child when his family was removed from the town outside Chernobyl. Essentially they were told to leave right now, no reason and no exceptions.

I'm a weird bird...a staunch Conservative, Republican, Right-Wing, Fleet Navy guy who doesn't much care for nuclear power. Personally, I think we unleashed Pandora's Box, and have been (and will be) paying for it for generations to come. I live in the shadow of Oak Ridge and Watts Bar...and can tell you that the "local wisdom" here is, "don't eat the fish". I figure everything from increased autism rates, to rising cancer deaths are all related to the (in my opinion) irresponsible early testing and deployment of this energy source and weapon. If I could hop in a time machine, I'd go back and convince the people behind it to find another way.
