The mysterious vanishing (and reappearance) of William Hughes

AirForce Captain missing for 35 years, who went AWOL from Kirtland AFB, NM found near San Francisco, CA in 2018. In this updated story, there was a former AirForce Captain apprehended in Daly, CA near San Francisco after being declared a deserter in 1983. Apparently, he was supposed to go TDY to Europe and didn't report back to Kirtland after his temporary assignment and was declared AWOL. He was never found until 2018 and he was described by his SF neighbors as friendly & likeable, who went by the name of Barry Timothy O’Beirne. Capt. Hughes & was a huge SF Giants fan and was seen often in the local Daly, CA gym, sporting Giants gear. He was located through a passport fraud investigation that noted inconsistencies in his application. When investigators arrived he confessed to being William Howard Hughes and that he'd deserted the AirForce in 1983. Crazy story, but unbelievable that he was able to be on the lam for so many years without getting caught. What does everyone on RallyPoint think of the story?
