Over the past few weeks, details have continued to emerge surrounding leak investigations initiated by the Department of Justice under Donald Trump. On June 4th, four New York Times reporters learned the department spent months fighting for their phone and email records in court—an initiative that also targeted reporters from The Washington Post and CNN. But because of gag orders, initially continued by the DOJ under Biden, the reporters had remained in the dark. But for Matt Apuzzo, an international investigative reporter for the Times, this was nothing new. He spoke with Brooke about his previous battles with the government over information, and how such fights are bad news for journalism.
