YALE UNIVERSITY is on the forefront of this.
In a statement, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., ranking Democrat on the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee, offered his support for Monk's legal effort.
"I strongly support action to reform this broken appeals system because justice delayed for these veterans is justice denied, unconscionably and unacceptably," Blumenthal said. "I hear from hundreds of veterans whose benefit appeals have languished for months, even years. The VA needs to improve and enhance its processing of appeals."
We are a nation of laws and regulations starting with the Constitution of 1788. Serving in the military and them telling us this is courageous and dangerous at the same time should be of no surprise the pressures and life style and code of ethics we live by and also get injured in.
We swore an OATH: I,..., do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic...
The Constitution..Read it...Understand...this is a societal thing..how we treat each other, in and out of service, based on HUMAN and CIVIL RIGHTS. This includes your rights and benefits as a service member and as a veteran.
I will sit here and say waiting 1 day for benefits when you are down and out and really hurting is 1 day to much. The trickle down affect is an affect that has a negative affect on the member, the family and our society. I should know. My father was Army Veteran 66-68 11th LIB Vietnam. I wont explain my childhood with no VA support as the dependant. But I can explain to you what it is like to live as a baby dependent of a wounded soldier with no VA support or benefits every being rendered.
I really believe it should be very easy to understand and monitor the life cycle of service connect military service caused injuries.
I recently was in the VA Psych ward self medicating on a alcohol binge, and met a younger Army Female Veteran who was obviously traumatized (who had patient records just waiting to be accessed in patient records, noting doctors patient notes, she was jumping off roofs to see if life was real or to something of that affect ) and she was MEDBOARDED 4 years ago approximately and service connected at 20 Percent for a fractured hip, and 0 Percent for Psych. That is $200 approximately in compensation for these injuries. I walked her into state funded VSO in the same hospital who promptly put her in for a service connection upgrade comp pen that was tagged for homelessness, that she has been dealing with due poverty, and her mind set is deteriorating, 3 times in the psych ward in the last year along. No one helped her process a service connection upgrade!? until i met her.
We need to look out for each other in a lot of ways, battle buddies and shipmates till the end.
