Everyone knows that the O's get a break over the commonplace gob, like that old archaic term. Since all enlisteds work and officers supervise this would seem to be a normal circumstance.

LTC Stephen C. - OK, I have to admit I once had an Ensign hand me a wrench, a crescent, but a wrench. The Engineer chewed his butt out.

My father was the engineering officer aboard an LST during WWII, MCPO Roger Collins. He had a mechanical engineering degree from Auburn and had just spent eight weeks at the diesel engineering school in Flint, MI. His story was that he went down to the engine room and nearly had a stroke! He said he had no idea what he was looking at. He then pulled his chief aside, and said, "You take care of me, and I'll take care of you!" Needless to say, life was good for the engineering department aboard USS LST-78! My father was no ordinary ensign!

The good ones learn fast, slow ones had a far more difficult time. I had a new O-1 come into the Radio Shack and asked me to teach him about all the equipment, I handed him one of my tech manuals and told him once he finished it we could speak the language. He got the message and became a good COMMO.

PO1 Tony Holland Well at least he is not going to be keel hauled for it? Guarantee he will be mess cranking soon whether he has done it already or not.
