A disaster doesn't create heroes or good neighbors, it merely gives us a chance to be heroes and good neighbors. If the govt wants to help, let them reestablish Civil Defense to provide us with the supplies and equipment, training and coordination that we need to be better heroes and better neighbors. Anyone who follows me knows that I've spoken on this countless times. When 9/11 occurred, President Bush told us to hunker down and never fear, the feds were on the job. He then instituted a policy to take the fight to the terrorists so that they would come here to terrorize us. Well, to a degree I agree with the "flypaper" strategy, however, I think there's still a place for Americans to take care of themselves. We have a long history of taking care of ourselves and done well at it. If there is one thing lacking that the govt can provide is training and coordination. Once upon a time, we called it Civil Defense. I think we should revisit it.
