I served, but I volunteered. And unless we really intend to activate the draft which no one seems to want anyway, it may be a moot point.

Thanks for serving without having the Selective Service Board breathing down your neck. I volunteered too, but with a Draft # of 32, it was going to be a moot point. I served twice as long (4 yrs) and learned a lot. I even came back for serve as an officer….who’da thunk!

I went before my E5 board in 1973. I'm no longer sure what the exact question was asked but at that time I suggested that women should be allowed to perform any task for which they are qualified. My argument was that as long as the standards were the same and achieved, women have as much skin in the game as their male counterparts and should not have barriers that stop them that don't exist for men. I made E5 and was told by one of the board members I was the only person to have appeared before the board to have ever suggested such a thing. My opinion hasn't changed. Unless we actually see us reinstating the draft, I don't see the need. I do believe men should be the first priority because of the child bearing issue.

1SG Russell Scott - I am not in favor of lower standards for specific jobs. If a woman qualifies, she's in. If not, she's not

And don't forget to include the Veterans because new recruits need so much mentoring. I will register for the draft.
