Actually your statement is incorrect. Canada, Saudis Arabia/OPEC, and Venezuela are the top three importers of oil into the USA. America imports about 10 million barrels of oil per day from about 70 different nations around the world. This accounts for about 25% of American oil consumption. We export about 5 million barrels per day (mostly refined fuel), to over 100 countries. A lot of crude oil does come from Canada, that is because they lack the refineries that we have. So, 38% percent of the oil brought into the USA is from Canada. 34% comes from OPEC countries, with Saudi Arabia being 11% of that. Other Persian Gulf Countries account for 18%. Venezuela accounts for about 8% of oil imports. About 17% of the refined oil goes back to Canada. So by the time it is all said and done, no we don't rely that heavily on Middle East oil or Venezuela, we still get more from them than Canada, even more so when you subtract what we send back to Canada.
