We always hear that about 20% of vets have PTSD. From what I've seen, I'd say that closer to 60-70% of combat vets are struggling with PTSD, MST, and other pains of 15+ years of combat (30+ if you include those who were in DS or the Balkans).
There are those, even here on RP, who deny PTSD, and claim that vets are just whiney benefit seekers, including a certain ER Physician. As a counselor and benefit advocate, I have helped 100s of vets who are completely crippled by PTSD. It's not a visible injury, so people decry it as fraud.
I suffer from lots of non-visible injuries, and I'm a 100% S/C disabled vet myself, although in my 22 years in the Navy, I never saw combat.
