Well don't know about others, But if I was Active duty I would be doubling my monthly income. I , as a Guardsman, only make 32000 a year civilian side. take taxes and that equals about 22000 a year. drill check for a 2 day drill is about 300 after taxes. I spend at least a 100 dollars of that in travel to and from, gas, food for the trip. About 600 miles round trip. Then tires, oil changes wear and tear, added insurance for the mileage that I have, so the 3600 a year just don't cover the cost of the driving to and from, missed work! My place of employment doesn't question when I have to go and generally lets me go when I need to, but I have to use personal days to offset my paycheck for the days missed and then I have no time for vacations or what ever. So as far as active duty I would say yes, with TIS I would be making good money. Guard side NO we need better pay.
