Bad decision. Jewish yamakas are not allowed. Strict observance of the Sabbath on both Sat or Sun allowed. Uncut hair for Sikhs is not allowed. Military is effective because it treats all as equal. Allowing some to be different undermines basic principles.

If one want to freely practice their religion without restrictions, then don't join the military. There is nothing in the Constitution that separates church and state. The President is free to make policy for the armed services. Allowing exceptions to accommodate every person's wishes is bad policy.

Yarmulkes are definitely allowed as well as other types of religious garments. Some are at the commander's discretion.

Nope LTJG Richard Bruce , you are off the mark, pretty much everything you mentioned has a wavier for it and I have personally seen it. Including a Sikh (beard, turban, and hair included). Also have seen a Rabbi chaplain with beard and curls.

Then why doesn't everyone get a waiver? What makes a Sikh or Rabbi different than others? We are all different.

Thank you my friend SSG(P) (Join to see) for making us aware that Air Force Staff Sgt. Abdul Rahman Gaitain, who is an airman with the 821st Contingency Response Squadron, received the service's first religious accommodation, based on his Muslim faith, allowing him to grow a beard.
"The Air Force has granted its first ever religious accommodation beard waiver designed to allow an airman to observe his Muslim faith.
Staff Sgt. Abdul Rahman Gaitan, an airman with the 821st Contingency Response Squadron at Travis Air Force Base, California, was granted the exemption after waiting years for approval, an Air Force release said.
Gaitan, who was raised as a Catholic, first developed an interest in the Muslim faith while stationed at an air station in Izmir, Turkey, a curiosity that remained strong when he left for his new duty station in Hawaii.
“When I left Turkey, I felt as if a little bit of myself was left behind,” he said. “I began to read the Quran and the more I learned, the more I was drawn to its teachings."

MSG (Join to see) - it is a mandatory uniform for Officers in the AF. Optional for most enlisted, where it is not, it is unit issued.

TSgt Joshua Copeland - if that is the case, I stand corrected on mess dress not brining a required uniform for female Air Force officers. That said, it is not a required uniform for any Soldier, unless it is issued and I have never actually witnessed that happening, in my two decades of service, and I’m a loggy.

MSG (Join to see) - I'd imagine the Army Band would be one place where it may be issued.

TSgt Joshua Copeland - Could be, although I believe the Army band has its own ceremonial mess uniform, which includes a trouser option for female bandmembers.
