A tough letter to write for his leadership. Even tougher for his family to receive. Thankfully, I never had to write one of these.

I just missed out on having to write one at Ft. Carson. Shortly after I turned my tank company over a new platoon leader shouted "Clear!" over the intercom in the field, then moved the turret 90 degrees. The driver had laid his seatback flat and gone to sleep. He was cut in half. . . .
