We should also give the same recognition to those entering the skilled trades. We need them a hellua lot more than we need more college graduates with worthless degrees and student loan debt they can't repay

Absolutely agree with you on this. Worthless degrees are money making machines for Universities. Degrees should be targeted on areas that are needed... more real science, mathamatics, engineering, AI, etc.
