My family in North Dakota work with a lot of cattle farms. The "system" is not broken. There is a clog in the funnel that is the big companies. The ranchers still have cattle, and they can ship them. The plants that produce the meat (slaughter/cut up/package) are having back logs. There are only a few large meat production plants in the country (supposedly the same for all other meat types, this example os for beef). These large plants have had small C19 outbreaks, but not enough to shut down full scale production. Once SYSCO's consumers (restaurants and such) have closed down, the meat production plants have to retool the types of packages they do, and that takes a bit of time. There is no broken system, other than the problems with a system where big companies buy up all the smaller companies to do scale, and then have issues when things change. Smaller companies are more nimble and can react quicker than large ones...
