As the article points out, "“A lot of those companies saw money coming in and thought it would last forever and expanded accordingly."
This is very reminiscent of the "dot-com bubble" in the late 90s as many tech companies had the same future looking view - "Life is good and it's going to stay that way. Oh, look, another dump truck full of money just pulled up to the loading docks!"
