Cynthia Croft - my response was not meant to be derogatory, respectfully, gay and transgender people serving in the military have been dealing with jokes, ball busting, and bs'ing for years this is nothing new. Now I am in no way shape or form saying that harassment, singling out, or violating SHARP/EEO is okay at all. Things like this have been apart of the military for years, its called having tough skin, the article was meant to humor the veteran community, if you think this article is bad you should see what is posted on dufflebag there are far worse articles on there. Granted this is just my opinion, I can respect and honor yours and everyone else's on here.

I have served with several, LBGTQ soldiers throughout my 9 years in the military, all of them are great people who I would trust with my life, I mean zero disrespect to them or their community.

Telling someone to have "tough skin" in response to something that offensive is equally as offensive. Because "things like this have been a part of the military for years" is not a reason to allow it to continue. It is rude. It is offensive. And people should not have to have tough skin and tolerate it. If you have served with LBGTQ Soldiers, and cared at all about their equality, you wouldn't defend the photo. It is disgusting.

SGM (Join to see) - MSG, respectfully I did state that I fully support LBGTQ service members as well as uphold the standards of SHARP/EEO, I have stood up for them and pointed out others wrong doings, our unit has had several briefings on the new transgender rulings.

SGT(P) (Join to see) - Roger. Respect doesn't come with laughing at, making fun of, or spreading derogatory information. Telling someone tough skin is a requirement is a cop-out and no one should have to have tough skin and tolerate people using humor to hide their true feelings. And comparing to Duffleblog; one may be worse, both are wrong. Making fun of people to get laughs, especially those someone doesn't know, isn't cool, its being a bully. In my opinion.
I do know typed words are difficult to relay true feelings and thoughts, I hope yours lean more towards being a friend to those you mentioned than the "more for humor than seriousness".

I just received a briefing with over 200 other soldiers on Sunday regarding official policy for equal treatment of transgender soldier and their rights thereof. I would be very surprised if that brief had been given prior to a firm decision if there was significant opposition at the top.

I have received a couple of briefings myself and don't see where the "sky is falling" in the Army at least. I am currently serving with Soldiers who are transgender and so far......no problems.

1SG (Join to see) - I remember not that long ago hearing people saying that letting gays openly serve would destroy the military in short order. I have read much that the same was said when the Army was integrated. Peole who profession is war tend to handle this kind of trivia without much fuss once the orders are given.

The folks that say that they will quit usually do not, and the one thay do are helping increase the quality of the force by leaving,
