Wow. I understand we have racial issues with our past but to say our American students should not read the Declaration of Independence is ridiculous and a sad commentary on where we are today.

What about the inspirational value of cognitive dissonance. Some child knowing what this nation was SUPPOSED to be founded on and seeing the uneven application, should be asking "What about me?" A sense of outrage should be and WAS sparked by people of good will and good faith who saw the difference between the promise and the reality. Withholding the inspirational message is decreasing the oxygen content of the room.
