A sad, but all too frequent story. Having been laid off 6 times, I can vouch that there are tons of benefits available, but they don't make house calls; you have to apply yourself. This can be difficult if you don't have transport or a computer.

And a lot of places have shuttles that deliberately go out of their way to help the disadvantaged. In fact, our local bus service offers free inter city trips for them. Even a city as large as Orlando used to have something similar when I lived there. Not sure if they still do.

Homelessness is an issue that has many facets to it SFC (Join to see). I have a good friend of mine, due to alcohol and drugs while he was on active duty in Germany which led to his discharge and release back to society with no help whatsoever. Mental health issues set it, perhaps exacerbated by the drugs which led to his homelessness. After many years of drinking and drugging he is now clean and sober for almost 20 years but that time on the streets took a toll on him. Its sad all around. No veteran should be homeless nor should any other person in this great country of ours.

I agree with you on that SFC William Farrell. Thank you for sharing that story about your friend. I'm glad he's doing better

I care about us SSG Fulvio Ortega! We didn't need congress when we joined and they were never there in between or after! It takes them 30 + years just to recognize some soldiers during wars past!
We the people never need a government, it's the government who needs the people! And it's everyone who needs the soldiers! It may not come in our time hun, but one day soldiers will be the gladiators of the world again. Because we are the only ones trained to survive all situations.
God Bless my friend

SFC William Farrell, I never saw anyone get smarter or wiser under the influence - that stuff destroys many lives each year.
