Without knowing too much about this case other than what I just read, it seems to me he got the shaft. Yes he should have been punished for following an illegal order. But any jury should also realize that any junior enlisted is usually not quick to speak up and say "Something about that order doesn't seem right..." because they should realize that from Day 1 of Boot Camp you are taught to never question orders "unless it's an illegal order..."

I am glad that everything is going well for him. Sad that he had to serve his time without any appeals.
