I knew an individual who was Oneida Indian. The fact that the Oneidas have a casino didn't keep him from being poor. The American Indians as a group has not had it easy ever in my lifetime

My wife is a Cree Indian from Canada.
When we go to Mexican restaurants come a they think she's Hispanic and speak to her in Spanish. When she goes to the USA, there is no discrimination. Different story here in Edmonton Alberta Canada.
There is discrimination against natives and both the US and Canada.
In the last provincial election, they harassed her at the polling station. Here in Canada, they can ask for ID and is not considered racist.
1. She showed the Registrar her Canada professional truck drivers big rig driver's license. They wanted to 2nd form of ID. She had a valid Canadian passport.
2. They still didn't believe her in a want to local utility bill. She had a local utility bill with her showing She lived near the polling station.
3. She had to point her name out on the list because they said her name was not there. She did not get upset because this is what usually happens.
4. They finally gave her of a ballot after a second person looked over her ID.
5. They were not really friendly to her but they were furling to the next person who was Ethnic but not native Canadian.
6. She drives a Dodge Challenger and people give her mean looks On the road or in the parking lot.
7. When she pays with a credit card, she often is asked for a second form of ID.
8. She has a native friend with a white sounding last name who applies for jobs online but then is told the job is no longer there once they see that that person is indigenous.
9. She often gets followed in stores by security or by employees because they think she is going to steal.
10. When we go to restaurants, she says if they are only nice to us because I am with her.
11. This Happens to native Americans as well I'm sure. Not all of them are drunks and smokers. My wife has not had alcohol in over 23 years. She stopped smoking 5 years ago.
I am sure you have heard about other stories. In Canada, we had a situation where a passed out drunk native Canadian was shot in the back of the head and the white person walked away a free man because Of racism in saskatchewan.

SP5 Dennis Loberger All white jury which would not be acceptable In the USA. When this story came out, I was working alongside a jag officer who works at a brigade Headquarters and he told me that the US would throw out this case if you had an all white jury. There is KKK and Canada and the judge was considered to not be impartial.
