If it is that important to in individual making millions of dollars to play a game, more power to them. I had favorite numbers growing up, that I wore while playing sports, but they didn't affect my performance so it was not a major thing in the end. I would hope that they are more pressing or beneficial things professional athletes could focus their time on.

I would agree at the end of the day it is a number. but I feel that if a sports community retires a number to pay homage to a player that should not be taken away just for another player to wear it. I have a lot of respect for Bruce Bowen to do what he is doing. I fell that is a part of the Spurs mentality as a whole. (one of the reasons they are my favorite team)

The article doesn't say whether or not the GM made the call at the behest of Aldridge. If it was a goodwill gesture on the part of the team, then great. If it was a request by the 'new kid in town,' they should have told him to kick rocks.
