I agree that Capt Dye has greatly increased the authenticity of films and TV shows depicting the military, because he is the real thing and uses USMC training techniques to whip the actors into physical condition and the right mindset to accurately portray military personnel. But not even he gets it right all the time. He was the military advisor on the 1990s TV show "Hawkeye" (the one with Lynda Carter as the love interest), a show that portrayed James Fennimore Cooper's frontier character Natty Bumpo during the French and Indian War. On one show, a couple of redcoat soldiers were raising the flag and those armed with muskets were doing WWII British drill, the same as with the SMLE rifle, rather than correct 1750s musket drill. But it was no big thing and the drill was executed smartly (no doubt thanks to Dye's training) - probably something that nobody but a F&IW reenactor like me would have noticed... :-)
