PO2 Robert M., I guess people may argue for climate change ad infinitum, but is that really the whole story? Perhaps the organization is underfunded.
I live in the Nashville, TN area, and am only about 60+ miles away from one of the premier elephant sanctuaries in the U.S. In fact, it is named The Elephant Sanctuary in [Hohenwald] Tennessee, and is currently home to 11 elephants (27 over time). This area of the country has a mild, temperate climate, but winters can get cold. This from The Elephant Sanctuary's website: "The Elephant Sanctuary maintains three separate habitats with heated barns, solar water pumps, hay storage buildings, spring-fed lakes, pastures and woodlands, fencing, four onsite security houses, and miles of internal maintenance roads. Wherever possible, The Elephant Sanctuary uses energy-efficient materials to reduce overhead costs. Secure fencing, sound structures, and dependable machinery are an absolute necessity for a Sanctuary that is safe for both elephants and people."
If climate change is indeed occurring, complaining about it is neither the immediate nor even the long term answer. Perhaps the Wildlife SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center in Mathura, India should follow in The Elephant Sanctuary's footsteps.

SP5 Christine Conley, many would like to visit The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald. We even started planning a trip there. However, consistent with their philosophy of letting these magnificent creatures finish out their lives without being on exhibition, the sanctuary is closed to the public.
