How reckless and irresponsible! I understand that he might be grieving, but this is unacceptable! "Favoritism/privilege" has always been the issue.

Cox allegedly showed up in the parking lot of an Ellis County church on July 13th and appeared drunk and crying as police arrived after a report of shots fired in the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church – Cox reportedly has several family members who attend the church. In the officer’s body cam video, Cox can be heard telling the officer he fired the shots “cause my boys are getting killed in Dallas” and said “the black c–n started killing my boys.”
Cox was charged with deadly conduct and taken to the Ellis County Jail, but on the same day he was arrested, the pastor signed an affidavit of non-prosecution which the D.A. pointed out was a “slap on the wrist” because Cox was a former jailer for Ellis County and felt that the sheriff was giving him preferential treatment because of it.
We trust law enforcement officers to uphold their oaths and once again understand the stress that comes along with the job but putting lives in danger all because you need to “let off stress” and subsequently comes with no consequences for your actions… there’s a big problem that needs to be addressed.

People need to understand the criminal justice system. The sheriff Does Not press charges. A chief of police Does Not press charges. And neither does an FBI director! These three investigate incidents involving criminal and/or potential criminal activity. They, in turn, hand the case file to a prosecutor or a district attorney. Those persons file charges. In this case, the pastor chose compassion in light of the circumstances. Was it stupid what the deputy did, yes. He will most certainly face disciplinary actions within his department and I doubt they will be light. And about preferential treatment? Don't even begin to get me started on that disgusting twist on the phrase. Shall I count the hundreds of thousands of actors, athletes, politicians, fake ministers, criminal ethnic groups, and day to day people who receive preferential treatment all the time? AND FOR WORSE??? Peddle your self-righteous bent somewhere else.

Thanks for the info/education. Regardless, I feel that a crime was committed and I hope charges are filed by whoever is responsible for filing charges.
