This article in itself is deceiving. Did she attend basic between December and June which is when high schools normally graduate. My son wore his Army dress blues but hed went to Basic between his junior and senior years at 17. He didn't cover it with a gown because the school and his recruiter wanted to give him awards. He graduated first in his class in basic and 5th in his school class. Yes lm bragging some. I was proud of my soldier.

The key here is not wearing the uniform....I'm sure plenty of split option military students wear theirs.....UNDER the cap and gown. Since this was a Marine, I'm sure they wanted to wear it INSTEAD OF the cap and gown. Graduation from an academic institution has nothing to do with your military service, so stop being special snowflakes, Marines. It's not about you.

Morgan Bangs - Until you've worn the uniform, you have no clue, so stop talking about stuff you know nothing about.

WTF! Why would any public school deny wearing dress uniform to anyone who graduated early to attend basic and made it back to walk with their class! Hell yes I want to praise them for having the balls to step up for their country today.

Nancy McCain - I say to you the same thing I said to Morgan Bangs. And let's not forget, the issue isn't wearing the uniform UNDERNEATH the cap and gown, it's wearing it instead of. Thats' the issue.

CW3 (Join to see) - The fact is they should not be forced to wear it under the cap and gown. They should be allowed to wear dress blues without the cap and gown if they want regardless. Unless they haven't completed basic to earn it.

Just because she signed up to be a marine doesn't mean she is a marine so she should not be allowed to wear the marine uniform. She has to earn it. I was also a senior in HS I signed up for the marines on the 120 day delay program. I wouldn't have dreamed of wanting to wear a uniform at graduation. In fact I would have been embarrassed to ask. If she finishes boot camp she will understand and be more proud. I wish her luck. Semper fi.
