If your former military you might enjoy this online game. It's kind of like STRATEGO but has much more depth to it. So your basicly put in the role of Field Grade or higher Military Commander commanding military forces, at the very start of the game you can pick a country. Based on the country you get assigned a military doctrine from the Cold War (East or West). Based on your Doctrine you have a choice of military equipment to acquire and use. For Eastern Doctrine they use ex-Soviet and now Russian equipment all the way up to the Armata Tank. For Western Doctrine they use American equipment and then there is a local country flavor, Brazil has it's own MBT, So does Isreal, so does a few other countries but basically you get the M1 Abrams tank. You also get Air Force (up to B2 bombers), and Navy (Up to Gerald Ford Class Aircraft Carriers). The goal of the game is to capture territory for points and you need so many points to win. You can pay to play the game using a CC and what they say is GOLD in the game. Or you can play for free. Playing for free requires you to move fast and have some experience with the game. I use GOLD as it is less stressful and I am still relatively new but I can also play for free now as the other players gave me tips. The other caveat to the use of military force in this game is you have to live within your means. That is you have a resource production of each territory you own along with citizen morale. So you can only build a military that your resource production can support (choose military equipment wisely in the game). If you build a military too large, your start experiencing resource shortages and the civilian population rebels and turns into an insurgency in your home territory. If you use Chemical Weapons, Nukes or carpet bombing via bombers more than a few times, same thing happens, morale drops and you start having to fight an internal insurgency along with the opposing forces. So you have to keep an eye on morale in your territories as well as the dashboard on resource production and keep that in the green......to stay out of trouble on the home front. Best to read the rules wicki before playing the game. Also some CONS: International Game and there are a lot of kids playing it, so you see some really dumb military equipment being used at times, I had a kid try to assualt my Gerald Ford Class Carrier while it was in port with an Infantry Bn and hand grenades for example.....comical to watch but you have to also understand they do not have the thick skin us adults do and so sometimes you end up with an F-bomb email or worse in your game private messaging, from a kid with a bad temperment. Some adults act that way as well. Can't fix stupid. Overall if you have a thick skin and can ignore that type of abuse this is a pretty good game and somewhat addictive....be careful if you use a credit card and set a threshold limit and stick to it if you do. Also another CON: Russian and Chinese Nationalists as players and typically I report them to the Mods if they start up with the racist garbage or the nationalist crap......I don't need to hear that. Mods are pretty good about suspending them once reported. It takes a real time day or two though. Last I usually play the 4X games which means 1 hour in real life is 4 hours in the game. The 1 to 1 game can last up to a month. 4X game is about a week.....still too long for me but fast paced enough I don't get bored.
