One irony which seems to escape incoming Senator Tammy Duckworth is that many Presidents had military service in war from George Washington, Jackson, Grant, Teddy Roosevelt, Eisenhower, through George H.W. Bush. Yes our nation and military are designed to be led by civilians which is why no active-duty officer has ever served as POTUS, SCOTUS justice, or Federal Legislator. However reserve-component officers have served in Congress successfully. Retired officers are civilian in that they have no official-military capacity.
Our three branches of Government are led by civilians and have been since our nations founding. We have had retired military officer advisors to POTUS since the early days of the nation and we have had retired officers serving as Secretaries of Federal Agencies and Departments who have each their nation with distinction.
In the 18th century military-coups were common and the concern about standing armies was pressing. Those days have long passed.
Tammy Duckworth was a junior officer who despite deploying and serving honorably does not seem to grasp the basics of the US Constitution, the limitation of retired military personnel, and SCOTUS rulings on the matter of civilians who were previously soldiers, sailors, or marines [airmen didn't exist until after 1947].

LTC Stephen F. - I am not that versatile with this iPad. Many RP's addresses pop up when 10 or 12 characters are entered, SFC Davis's does not auto-fill for me. I don't bother recalling many things, full RP addresses amongst them.

CSM Charles Hayden - tagging Joe seems to be impossible unless you copy and past in the RallyPoint member number with his name included. I have tried many times and been unsuccessful.
