@SPC David Stephenson - We left Chicago in 1991 because we didn't want our children growing up in the city. I knew what it was like. I grew up on the streets of Chicago most of my childhood until I joined the Marines when I was seventeen. I don't blame anyone for wanting to leave for a better environment to live their lives and especially raise their children.

SPC David S. - Good move. We haven't been back to the Chicago since we left. I miss the food and mom & pop hardware stores. They can have the rest of the city!

As More And More City's Are In Decay, The More It's Residents Leave Those City's.
It Has Always Been This Way....Flint Michigan Is Also One. As Are Most City's
Whom Were Automobile Related,
Even Lansing, Michigan; Where Oldsmobile Headquarters And Main Plant Was Located.
These Places Turn Into Dumps And Are Eventually Leveled To Start Another City.
Same With Detroit

Yes it rather sad the same repeated story. I like history so when I visit places I make note of buildings and try to find info on what they looked like when they where first built. Its amazing how many cities and communities have suffered the same fate of urban blight after an industry closes.

SPC David S. -
I Was Back In Lansing About 30 Years Ago To Visit Friends & Family..
Oldsmobile's Parking Lots Appear To Be The Largest In Michigan's History.
I Left Michigan Before Even The GM Executives Were Aware It Was Closing Their Operations. My Sister Was Working With The Rail Roads Who Were Bidding On The Removal & Shipments Of Their Machinery, Stock, Equipment & Supplies.
I Had to Remain Quiet About It Or She'd Have Been Up To Her Butt In Trouble.....
I Sold My Businesses & Got The "L" Out Of Dodge.
I "suggested" That Old's MAY Be Closing Down To A Few Of My Close Friends,
But Nothing Else, In Hopes They'd Get The Hint.
They All Said The Same Things,
"Old's Can't Afford To Close" And "The Union Would Never Allow Old's To Close".
WRONG...
