I’ve eaten a lot of bizarre and exotic stuff in my lifetime, but I think I’d drawn the line at a bat that’s been boiled alive and hasn’t been even been properly skinned or gutted.

Speaking myself as someone who’s part Asian (Filipino and Chinese blood from my Mom’s side), it blows my mind how so many Asian cultures have no concept of killing animals (whether octopus, dog, or bat) humanely before cooking them.

Bats may have been the original carriers, but they allegedly spread it to other animals. One story claims disease spread based on unclean and cramped conditions at Chinese wet markets. The term, 'wet', refers to livestock present for on-site bloody slaughter as opposed to grocery store where meat is already partly processed

One other hypothesis was the consumption of cats and dogs and just about anything else that has meat on it. These things were not intended for human consumption and if you try to eat my cat she'll just scratch your eyes out. She gives Mean Kitty a run for his money.
