It is extremely ridiculous when the law won't intercede in these things because they think parents are the best for the kids. Not always. Some parents are abusive (fathers and mothers both can be).
I find it odd that in the case above the law didn't intercede faster as the ex boyfriend is an unmarried male. He had no rights to those children until he established his paternity. Unmarried males have no parental rights in the US until they go to court and establish them. It's even worse the law doesn't do anything when domestic violence is part of the equation.
There are women who dont' have custody who take their kids - or even those who do. It's harder when custody is in play especially if the parents are married as both have equal rights to the kids. I know there was a story from near my hometown a woman gave birth and the state was going to immediately take the child into their custody. Somehow she got the security bracelet off the baby and took off. They found her later or the next day. But that kid was put in unnecessary risk because of a selfish person.
People need to realize it's not "stranger danger" that's the most worrisome - it's the people kids know who are usually the biggest threats to their safety.
I just wish some people would actually put their kids above their own needs and wants - and not use the kids as pawns against the other parent. It's abuse to do that.

I just don't get people. When you're divorced, you're divorced. Let it go. Move on.
