He paints and tarnishes people with a broad brush. He is as bigoted as the bigots he condemned. He also appears to be more closed minded than those with the dark rigidity he condemns. I have lived in rural America and in urban America. I liked the rural much better. I real don't understand his problem. If you don't like fly over America don't live there. I don't like urban areas, wouldn't live in Atlanta but that is me, my step daughter loves it. I won't trash the people that live in Atlanta. Oh, sorry your canidate lost. I didn't trash those that elected Obama, I would appreciate the same courtesy!

No point to it. Just slamming Trump supporters as ignorant close minded etc. So when the intelligentsia media get taken by suprise at the large political upset, I guess they were to smart to get it right?

Well other than painting a negative stereotype of middle America while ignoring reality what is the point? I may be a little denser than average. The fact that the majority of the media missed reality points to a rigidity of thinking every bit as bad as the author condemns. So please explain to me the errors of my ways. I am serious.

I find it interesting that some posters here appear to be exactly the type this person writes about. I live in one of the reddest of states (SD). My daughter is married to one of the rural persons this article describes. I quit trying to have any political discussions with him, just to have peace in the family. They had to agree not to have political discussions, for the sake of their marriage. He is "locked" into that rural, fundamentalist idea this article describes. The writer could very well have been writing about my son-in-law. I fear for their marriage.
Yes, the writer is using a broad brush, and I know it does not apply to every person that lives in the country. Here in SD we have about a 40% liberal voting block. That is 40% of the voters that don't subscribe to the nonsense the right-wing talking heads preach. But that still leaves 60% that do.
I think this writer highlights one of the major reasons those 60% do so.
