Cant find anything to explain why. Also, nothing estimating how many.

It's an interesting question as support for Ukraine is one of the very few things that is transcending political parties these days (more or less). So why are people willing to throw everything down and run to Ukraine when they weren't with all sorts of African countries, the Kurds, Afghans, etc?

I'm not exactly sure and I have been asking myself the same question, and indeed why am I attracted to the idea? I won't of course, but there is appeal to me. I think it has something to do with the fact that the story is simple and the Ukrainians are relatable. It's a David and Goliath situation and David is doing well against Goliath. Ukraine is clearly an innocent victim. Russia is a direct competitor and has been for a long time. Also, as I said culturally the Ukrainians feel like we have some shared values, including a desire for freedom and democracy.

There is another reason floating around in the back of my mind and it is tied to the people being relatable. We are a tribal species and quite frankly they are also partially relatable because they look like most of us.

Emotions are sometimes hard to figure out but I think those things are what is there.
