21 of these planes are being put into storage. They should be given to Taiwan in preparation of the Communist Chinese Invasion that is threatening to happen in the next couple years.
Someone had commented that there should be a study on its age and maintenance issues when there are over 281 in our inventory and I'm sure there are plenty of spare parts. All of them have new Wings anyway. The plane can turn on a dime. The plane can even defend itself against other aircraft because it can carry sidewinders. During the Vietnam war, the old Douglas Skyraider shot down a MIG-17 with his 20 mm cannons when it was engaged by North Vietnamese aircraft. That old aircraft didn't have radar while this A-10 Warthog has modern radar not to mention that Taiwan has their version of an air warning and control system to warn pilot.
This aircraft can land on dirt runways. It can carry up to 16 small laser-guided bombs. It can fly in all weather or even fly completely dark at night and still support soldiers on the ground and Destroy tanks on the beach which is why I'm recommending this plane to be used by the Taiwanese government to destroy the People's Republic of China forces on the beach. It can fly with one meter of it's wing missing. It has three hydraulic systems and one manual backup system so it can still fly even when severely damaged.

This was one of the selling points Eisenhower pitched for the Interstate Highway System - "we're going to need lots of runways when the Russians invade."

Yes because he probably remembers reading reports about the German luftwaffe doing that after successful closer support missions by 51 Mustangs and Thunderbolts destroying luftwaffe airfields.

Major factor is training and qualifying pilots, plus provide the critical ground-based logistics infrastructure needed to sustain, maintain, repair, and keep them flyable and capable beyond their first mission.

The Taiwan government has the will and the money to purchase, train, maintain an efficiently use these flying platforms to stop communist Chinese aggression on the beachheads. Taiwan has over 500 functioning m60a3 tanks but they only have two Abrams tanks recently received from the USA because of the slow production and because of the backlog of Tanks requested by other nations.

The fact is air traffic control, including tower and ground control, have nothing to do with air operations when you get down to basics. The military has proven this time after time when pilots "work out" procedures in a situation time after time. Yes, we have airborne controllers, but even their absence doesn't preclude operations under many circumstances. It all boils down to the pilots having a vested interest in everyone' surviving the incident and using their experience to control the brawl.
