If there is to be a draft, it must involve everyone!

Agreed! However, think about what roles best suit women. Think about the overall impact on society. Think about the QUALITY of lethality on the battlefield that that would mean.

We have women in combat roles now...we have women flying fighter aircraft, special forces, rangers et al. Women have fought for equal rights across the board in the military and damn...they are qualified to do it. I have a daughter and she is a nurse and if she were called up to serve, she would do so proudly. I think it is high time we put women on the Selective Service...make them sign up...no difference in todays world. You want equal rights and to be able to serve in any part of the military then that also comes with the draft. Can't have one without the other in my opinion.

Also, though I am not sure about today's military, in the past it was Combat Arms that got promotions first. There were very few non-combat that made it to 4-star. That would make it hard for women to get promotions if they were not Combat Arms.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth In the All Volunteer Force, the politics are all 'Tommie and Tommi this, Tommie and Tommi that...' but in a national emergency they only want "Tommie"? It makes zero sense.

LTC Trent Klug - There are a lot of people with archaic thinking (some on here) that women belong in the home and not on the battlefield or in combat roles. Well, several of my friends have been very successful combat fighter pilots with many many hours in direct fire of combat...and helluva good leader. And some in direct combat as Air Liaison officers or AF Spec Ops. Some of them I damn sure wouldn't cross.

Lt Col Scott Shuttleworth Having been an Infantryman for 18 of my 37 years and lugged my girlfriend ALICE around when she was thin and fat, I'm a little on the archaic side. My ruck going into Panama was over 100 pounds and even I, at 6'1" 200 pounds, had issues with carrying the weight.

I believe there are some jobs in the combat arms areas that women can do but not all. I'm not against them in certain jobs, but there are some jobs they physically can't handle.

Before I married my wife, she was living with a Nigerian woman. They were both going to college to learn sign language. The Nigerian woman was deaf. She had served with the Nigerian army as they did not exclude disabled individuals. I don't remember if it was a draft or compulsory service.

Fascinating. I am thinking they had a role for a deaf person, maybe some kind of written communications job? Mechanic?

MAJ Montgomery Granger - We can have disabled persons working rear echelon admin jobs...i.e., pay, finance, supply, services etc.
