Often we, as humans, are slow to learn and accept ideas that are opposed to the way we are raised. Back in Pre 70s timeframe nearly all white people read history from a history book written by white people. Many never heard or appreciated the accomplishments of blacks and therefore had misconceived notions of whites being better.
