MLK Day is a holiday in the United States honoring the achievements of Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Baptist Minister advocated the use of nonviolent means to end racial segregation. As one of the most influential African American civil rights leaders during the 1950s and 1960s, he gained national recognition during the bus boycott in Montgomery, Alabama, in 1955. He was also instrumental in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Dr. King was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964. He was assassinated on April 4, 1968.
