The Forgotten Legacy of the Fourth French Republic

I found this article quite interesting. The end of the 4th Republic and beginning of De Gaulle's 5th Republic is the reason my first language was German. In 1959 when the 5th Republic was born I was living in a town about 30 miles from Paris. De Gaulle's decision to oust allied troops from France means My Father got moved to Heidelberg. I was a little over a year old at the time. My Father was AD, my Mother was a nurse and I ended up with a German Nanny. It's De Gaulle's fault I don't speak french any better than I do.
