Somewhere back in my mind I remember learning that wildfires were actually nature's way of preserving the redwoods.

The wildfires in Yellowstone a few years ago actually helped "reset" parts of the park and brought back both plants and wildlife that had been crowded out by the overgrowth according to the park rangers Lt Col John (Jack) Christensen

Wildfires are nature's way of cleaning out a hoarder's house - everything dead and unneeded goes so the living can prosper.
Can't recall the site right now (read it after the 2020 fire), but I remember that the Redwoods in California used to be exposed to a forest fire every 3-5 years prior to the 1700s.
