Israel's government says it has approved a deal for a four-day pause in fighting to facilitate the release of some of the approximately 240 hostages seized by Hamas in its deadly attack on Israel on Oct. 7.
Hamas has not yet responded, but the deal was expected to include Israel's release of a number of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
Under the deal, Hamas would agree to release at least 50 hostages — expected to be mostly women and children — held in Gaza.
Israel's statement did not say when the pause and releases would take place, though earlier proposals said it would likely be about a day after a deal is finalized.
