Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) this week floated cutting off funding for Ukraine to deliver more money to Israel – but he quickly got cut down by an Israeli man who survived Hamas' brutal terrorist attack over the weekend.
Writing on Twitter, Hawley argued that "Israel is facing existential threat" and thus "any funding for Ukraine should be redirected to Israel immediately."
This provoked an angry response from journalist Amir Tibon, who lives in a community along the Israel-Gaza border and who described to The Atlantic this week how he had protected his daughters while they hid for hours as Hamas terrorists rampaged through their street.
"What a cynical move," Tibon said in response to Hawley. "Shame on you Senator. Iran is sending drones to Ukraine and guns to Gaza, to murder Ukrainians and murder Israelis. God help us if USA can't support both countries against this brutal anti-democratic axis. Glad Biden is in charge."
Aid to help Ukraine repel the invasion of Russia has been held up by congressional Republicans who say they want to pass it only if Congress passes funds aimed at securing the southern border between the United States and Mexico.
Some Republicans, however, such as Sens. J.D. Vance (R-OH) and Hawley, have simply called for cutting off Ukraine all together.
