I have a healthy respect for the defense industry. But I have a healthy distrust of them too. Mainly due to crappy systems requiring additional billions to make those crappy systems workable. Im looking at you Bradley IFV, SGT York ADA platform, and the F35. I could go on with the M9 bayonet and it's brittle blade, and the elevators and catapults of the USS Ford. But I wont.

I just finished a course on system acquisition and management. Believe me, the problems with development, especially of advanced technology, is a constant headache! Not only are we reminded of failures in management, but we also get to see successes.

Just curious: If you had a swarm of hostile fighter aircraft heading your way, would you say, "Don't send any F-35's; they were too expensive to develop!"?

Lt Col Timothy Cassidy-Curtis That's not the point. The program was to cost $200 billion, it's at double that now and costs are still growing. At the end of its service lifespan, it will cost over $1.7 trillion.

They do make it easy to hate them.

The stuff they peddle for communications geat and security is, with a few exceptions, attrocious.
