The author asserts Germany had been seeking peace for months in 1918? Really? That's a statement I don't think is backed by reality.

Germany had also planned a last-gasp offensive in 1918. After the Russians were mired in Revolution and surrendered, the Germans could bring all their forces to the Western Front. They were in a race to try to win before the Americans gave the Allies an undefeatable advantage.

The U.S. contingent gave the Allies a critical advantage. Thank God for "Black Jack" Pershing who resisted the French effort to use the Americans as replacements for the French forces. And thank God for the U.S. Marines, who were the only really effective U.S. forces when they first arrived in France.
